Lately, fewer young people have been
discovering the solitude and quiet joy of fly fishing. Kids are
spending more time in front of the television, or game system and less
time experiencing nature and a fishing heritage in Maine that stretches
back well over 100 years. At Kennebec Drifters, we want to see
more children on the water, enjoying and learning about a resource in
need of protection. To this end Kennebec Drifters is proud to
offer two new programs aimed at getting kids interested in fly fishing,
ensuring a bright future for our noble sport.Take your Child Fishing
Discount
The "Take your Child Fishing" discount
offers a 10% discount on half day and a 20% discount on full day wading
trips on the Lower Kennebec, for any parent and child (16 years of age
and under) booking in 2010. This 20% discount is also available on full
day float trips on the Lower Kennebec.
Learn to Fly Fish Weekend
The "Learn to Fly Fish Weekend" is an
opportunity for parents and children to bond, while learning the basics
of fly fishing. This two day course begins with a wading trip on
the Lower Kennebec, where beginning anglers young and old can learn the
basics of casting, fly selection, knot tying, and proper fish handling
techniques. The second day is spent floating the Lower river, and
putting the skills learned the previous day to practical, real-world
use. This package is available for $500 for 2 anglers and includes
both fishing days. Overnight lodging in the Waterville area is strongly
recommended.
